Bring to class each day:
On July 24th following check-in and registration we will hold our Opening Ceremony in Keller Hall in the Fine Arts Center. We will introduce the faculty and make important announcements, so all Institute participants and their parents should plan to attend. Following this ceremony, everyone will participate in our traditional Play-Ins, with violins in Keller, and cellos and violas in B120 in the Music Building.
We are planning on having a wonderful cookout following the Play-In on Sunday at 6:00 pm for all those who bought Cookout tickets. It should be fun!
Parents of first time Institute students may attend a special orientation on Sunday, July 24 at 7:00 pm following the Cookout. Location will be announced at the Opening Ceremony.
This is a wonderful opportunity for participants to get to know one another before classes begin on Monday. Jamie O’Hara, The Magic Guy, will perform and everyone will experience a few surprises while getting acquainted.
Those who submitted videos and applications for our Honors Recitals will be notified of their performance status by July 1, 2011. Those selected to perform will be expected to attend a scheduled rehearsal, and you will get a notice about this in your registration packet. (Reminder: If you plan to audition for Honors Recital selection, videos and applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2011.)
If you are in the Advanced String Camp, your chamber music and orchestra parts will be sent to you by July 1, 2011. Please be thoroughly familiar with this music by the time you arrive at the Institute. If necessary, have your private teacher work with you on this music. This year we are excited to have all Advanced String Camp participants join our faculty in a Side-By-Side performance of an orchestral piece at the Wednesday evening Faculty Recital. Monday evening we will rehearse for this very special piece.
